Centre For Social Transformation And Human Development (CHDST)
The Centre for Social
Transformation and Human Development was formed in August 2005 to coordinate
the ‘Protect Our Future Project’. The aim is to coordinate and support a
program of social transformation and human development in Nigeria. The center
organizes constant training for stakeholders on various aspects of human
development & social transformation, including conflict resolution, peace
education, democracy, environmental, and human rights.
The
organization was registered in 2005 with the Rivers State Government as an NGO
involved in Development and Social Work. The registration Number is
MYEE/YD/20/5175. Thereafter, it applied to the Corporate Affairs Commission and
was registered as a Not for Profit organization limited by guarantee in July
2008. The registration number is: RC 759470.

— Our Mission
The Centre exists to develop the human capacity for change. In cooperation with like-minded organizations, it seeks to transform situations of conflict by training and engaging youths, teachers, and community leaders on peaceful conflict management, democracy, and good governance, believing that only by creating a culture of peace and democratically-minded individuals can the community fully realize the potential of its physical and human resources for development.

CHDST aims to conduct all of its operations in accordance with its guiding values which steer its activities, programs, and operations: Justice, Fairness, Honesty, Integrity, Transparency, Peace, and Democracy.

— Our Objectives
(a) Train stakeholders in social transformation (peace building, environment, citizens participation, democracy, etc) and human development.
(b) Promote an awareness and interest in the common good by collaborating and empowering collective responsible leadership.
(c) Provide training and capacity building on peace education (peace building and conflict transformation).
(d) Train and empower communities and marginalised groups as well as other stakeholders to make democratic decisions for themselves, such as electing their own leaders and holding elected leaders accountable.
(e) Build capacity in communities on democracy, development & peace building.
(f) Provide training on various aspects that will enhance development in the community.
(g) Use the media as a tool for development and enhance public participation.
(h) Publish publications on peace education, citizen’s participation, democracy, good governance and environment to be adopted for use in the country.
(i) Create awareness on a democratic and a culture of peace among youths, women, marginalised groups and other stakeholders.
(j) Hold training sessions for youths, women, marginalised groups and other stakeholders to imbibe leadership and a culture of peace.
(k) Research into public participation, democracy, conflict and peace building.
(l) Collaborate with other organisations to achieve our objectives.
(m) Organise events in the area of Human Development & Social Transformation.
